About

half a day

Benkovac lies about 22 kilometres from Zemunik Donji, roughly a twenty-minute drive, and the archaeological site of Asseria at Podgrađe near Benkovac about 28 kilometres, around half an hour. Benkovac is home to the Kaštel Benković fortress. Asseria was a Roman municipium built on a Liburnian hillfort: its centre held a forum with a capitolium, town houses have been uncovered, and an arch in honour of Emperor Trajan was set into the main city gate in the early 2nd century. Both places are rest stops on the cycling routes of the Ravni kotari Tourist Board.
