About

The old parish church of St Catherine stands outside the village, in the local cemetery on Gradina. Today's church dates from the 17th century and replaced an older, medieval one. An inscription in the lunette of the Romanesque portal records the building of a church in 1194, in the reign of the Hungarian-Croatian king Béla III. That portal was moved to the western side wall, and a plaque with a Glagolitic inscription is set in front of the main entrance. The church was extended twice in the 19th century. Inside are three marble altars: the main one with a painting of St Catherine, and altars of Our Lady of Health and St Joseph with wooden statues. The bell gable holds two bells. The church was damaged in the Croatian War of Independence and was restored by the municipality and the parish together with the Conservation Department in Zadar. It is listed in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under number Z-3020.
