About
The memorial is dedicated to the Croatian defenders from Zemunik who were killed in the Croatian War of Independence. During the Serbian aggression part of the Zemunik parish was occupied, Gornji Zemunik and part of Smrdelje towards Murvica, and most of the population was expelled. The Day of the Defence of Zemunik is marked in memory of the hardest day the village lived through in the war. On its 30th anniversary, in early January 2022, the Association of the Independent Company of Zemunik Donji brought together members of the units that defended the area, families of the fallen and veterans' associations: wreaths were laid at the memorial and a requiem Mass was said in the parish church. Visitors are asked to treat the site as a place of quiet prayer and remembrance.
